Briefing from Board Meeting - March 1 2007

COMMUNITY HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE PARTNERSHIP (CHaSCP)

A significant leap forward in terms in co-operation between NHS Western Isles and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar will be achieved through the development of the Community Health and Social Care Partnership.

The CHaSP is being constructed as a 'health improvement' organisation with delegated resources, staff and services, aimed at making a difference to the health of the population and reducing inequalities.

A number of other health boards have created Community Health Partnerships (CHPs), but the development of the CHaSCP in the Western Isles - which encompasses Social Care Services - takes on a further element locally, which is very good news for service users.

Members of the Board approved the CHaSCP document at yesterday's meeting.

General Manager of Community Services Michael Cook paid tribute to the Comhairle for its support in the development of the CHaSCP, while Non Executive Director Angus Campbell pointed out that this was a 'great opportunity' for both organisations.
