At a public meeting in Castlebay to encourage involvement, local people made it clear that a distinct group is required as the people in Barra receive different services from the Uists in most cases. Also, planning work is needed around St Brendans hospital and home, both in the short-term and in the long-term. Local people were very keen to use the formation of a Locality Planning Group as a voice for such issues.

The message from the group is that joint working clearly exists in Barra, driven by need and the close working relationships. It is appropriate for the CHaSCP to support and nurture existing arrangements.
