Latest News - Social and Community Services Department have agreed with the Joint Improvement Team that a Consultant will undertake a short term piece of work over June and July 2009 focusing in particular on Uist and Barra. The outcome of this piece of work will also be applicable to other areas of the Western Isles that currently do not have overnight support services. The Consultant funded by the JIT is Malcolm Smith, former Director of Social Work with the Comhairle.

The provision of Health and Social Care in the Western Isles commenced new delivery arrangements in April 2008 with the launch of Phase II of the Community Health and Social Care Partnership (CHaSCP). The CHaSCP is concerned with:

  • Providing services as close to the homes of patients and service users as possible;
  • Increasing the amount of collaboration between partner agencies such as the Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and the Health Board;
  • Improving communications and consultation with staff, public, patients and service users;
  • Streamlining the use of resources.

This website has been produced to show how the CHaSCP is developing in the Western Isles, and to spark further discussion and involvement from staff and public alike.
